David Clancy, General Manager NSW, Cleanaway

David Clancy, General Manager of Cleanaway’s Solid Waste Services NSW/ACT, has had a long history with Cleanaway, looking after 28 sites and in excess of 950 employees across the state.  

With over 25 years in the waste management and recycling industry experience, David has been employed in operational and management positions locally, interstate and internationally. 

David is extremely passionate about Cleanaway working towards making a sustainable future possible.


Jim Fairweather, CEO, ResourceCo Group

Jim has held a variety of Sales, Marketing and General Management roles working in both mature and growth businesses and sectors over almost 30 years. 

Jim holds a Bachelor of Business from University of South Australia and is currently the Chair of the Australian Tyre Recyclers Association (ATRA), President of Waste & Recycling Industry South Australia (WRISA), on the national board of The Australian Council of Recyclers (ACOR) and sits of many advisory committees to governments and regulators around Australia. 

His role as Chief Executive Officer at ResourceCo, encompassing a variety of businesses across the ResourceCo Group – including Tyrecycle, places him at the forefront of the Circular Economy.  Jim has been a key figure in driving the ResourceCo business in its development in re-manufacturing of various waste streams and the development of end markets for recycled products.


Richard Macchiesi, General Manager - Innovation and Corporate Affairs, Visy

Richard Macchiesi has 25 years experience in the FMCG industry across multiple disciplines. He worked in the flavour industry developing strategic new products in Australia before heading to Chicago establishing a new dairy-based technology.   

Richard's career has travelled extensively in Europe and Asia identifying strategic alliances for new businesses, utilising a strong understanding of innovation and technology commercialisation. 

Richard is currently the Executive General Manager of Corporate Affairs and Innovation at Visy working on strategic initiatives that deliver value for his clients and Visy. 


Hon Trevor Evans, Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management 

Trevor Evans was sworn in as the Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management on 29 May 2019. He was first elected to Federal Parliament as the Member for Brisbane in 2016 and re-elected at the 2019 federal election.  

During his first term, Trevor served as Chair of the Government’s Policy Committee on Employment, Innovation, Science, Small Business and Resources, and served on both the Economics and Environment parliamentary standing committees. 

Before his career in politics, Trevor served as the CEO of the National Retail Association from 2012 to 2016, and worked as an economist in various roles at the ACCC, Seqwater and the Queensland Competition Authority.

Gayle Sloan, CEO, Waste Management & Resource Recovery Association of Australia

Gayle has a law and arts degree from the University of Adelaide. She worked for the NSW Attorney General’s Department for a number of years before moving into the Attorney General’s Ministerial Office in 1998, and then the NSW Police Minister’s Office in 2000. 

Following this time in state government, Gayle worked as a Director in a number of NSW councils, primarily looking after service delivery and assets. She developed and delivered a number of waste management contracts on behalf of councils, as well as managed environment and regulatory departments, including rangers and compliance officers.  

After three years of being a stay-at-home mum, Gayle returned to work in 2012 at Visy Recycling. In November 2015, Gayle joined WMRR as Chief Executive Officer.
