Overview

National PPR round up: What’s working, what isn’t, and where do we go from here. Adam Johnson, MRA Consulting Group

Details

Australia has been running litter campaigns in some form since the early 1970s, and reporting on the National Litter Index (“NLI”) since 2005. In this time there has been a significant social change leading to reduced littering, but litter remains a problem. This presentation looks at the NLI results for the past seven years, looking at trends and outliers across all states. Which states/territories are performing well, and which not so well. The paper draws some conclusions about what may or may not be contributing to the results, looking in particular at the impact of policies and campaigns. There is more work that can be done in the cross-cutting fields of policy, engineering and marketing to drive improvement in litter control, and this paper seeks to contribute to that discussion.
