Overview

A snapshot of recycled organics in the Hunter Region. Michael Neville, Hunter Joint Organisation of Councils

Details

Hunter Councils Environment Division and the nine Councils of the Hunter Waste Region are working closely together on the delivery of the Hunter Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (WARR Strategy 2014-21. The collection, processing and marketing of recycled organics products is clearly articulated as a high priority in the Strategy. This is a complex issue in a complex and diverse region, so multiple approaches including data analysis, stakeholder engagement, research, support for funding applications and regional capacity building have been delivered. These have assessed the scope and scale of the issue and developed a suite of integrated actions that will support councils to deliver improved long-term outcomes in all aspects of recycled organics.
