Details

Garage Sale Trail is a council enabled and community powered program that sees over 350,000 Australians get involved each year to reuse their old stuff and get to know their neighbours. In this talk Barbara shares seven years of learning since the program’s inception in 2010 and examines the factors that have helped to make the program successful in changing attitudes to waste and encouraging reuse. ideas discussed apply equally to other council programs designed to reduce landfill and educate the community about waste.

Biography

Barbara is the National Partnership Manager at Garage Sale Trail and has played a key role in the growth of the council enabled program, which sees over 350,000 Australians and 150 councils nationally get involved in an annual weekend of reuse. Aside from an addiction to op shopping and garage sale shopping, Barbara has over ten years experience working in private and public sector partnership management in both Australia and the UK, including a stint working with the British Olympic Association. Barbara has a Masters degree in Social Anthropology and is passionate about the role environmental programs can play in bringing the community together to affect long term change.
